I like this.

If you ever witnessed political demonstrations in Arab countries, you will notice that we have a knack for coming up with very 'creative' slogans. These slogans are usually very passionate but not necessarily intellectual in nature.

I recall the 1959 demonstration at the Shuwaikh campus where a number of students came up with the slogan, "Arab oil belongs to ALL Arabs." Needless to say, most Arabs from Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine followed suit and began chanting the same slogans. They continue to do that today.

If I were on campus that day, I would have come up with my own slogans and they would all have included; "Arab apples belong to all Arabs," "The Nile belongs to all Arabs," "Arab watermelons belong to all Arabs" and "Arab women belong to all Arabs."

You might wonder why I would come up with such brainless slogans. Well, in the 1930s when we were thirsty and living in not so luxurious conditions in the middle of the desert, we never heard slogans from Beirut that said, "The Kaleb River water belongs to all Arabs." We did not hear Egyptians chatting slogans about how the Nile belongs to all Arabs and I can say the same about Iraq. Having said that, let me add that the slogan, "Arab women belong to all Arabs" doesn't sound that bad after all."
